The Mid-Term Elections: Texas

Most of America has now done their job and citizens are sitting at home, sipping coffee while watching the news to see who won. Whether it be a Democratic, Republican, or an Independent home, all of us were in the same boat.

Except for me. Being a 15-year-old, I cannot vote. That power to vote is not in my hands yet, and I respect why they chose the age limit that they did to vote. Most of my high school is democratic; we all believed in Beto O'Rourke, the Democratic candidate for Texas. Unfortunately, after a long campaign, and a really close poll, Beto didn't win Senate. I felt numb as I heard that once again, we would have Ted Cruz, the one who believed immigration was bad and took a pro-gun stance. He would do nothing to help us stop school shootings and nothing to increase women abortion rights.

I can sit here all day and whine. You can do that too. Or you can laugh happily if your favorite candidate won. But to some extent, we, as teenagers, have some power and we cannot waste this power on crying over a candidate who lost or won. I love Beto, and I'm sure most of my friends loved him and his policies too. However, now as we look into the future, we must be optimistic and keep our strength together. This "blue wave" across Texas could mean a turning point for the democratic party and could bring about a new era for Texan politics. In a couple of years, once we graduate, we might be turning Texas into a blue state!

Besides Texas, Democrats have gained the House for the first time in 8 years while Republicans have gained control of the Senate. Statistics from various news sites have shown that most of the states expected to turn a certain way have turned that way, although it was a much tighter race.

Finally, as a closing statement, I would like to say that I respect all opinions, and to please not take offense to any of the statements I have made above. I simply stated my thoughts, and if you do have comments, please comment below what you think about the mid-term elections.
